About the artist

Hello, and thanks for visiting WildBritArt. I hope you are enjoying the site.
You are obviously curious about the face behind the animals, so I’ll say a bit about myself (in an understated, British way!). My name’s Elee Kirk, and believe it or not I don’t spend my life drawing British Wildlife. Most of my time is spent at the University of Leicester, where I’m carrying out PhD research into young children’s experiences of natural history museums
I decided to put together a clip art site of British Wildlife a few years ago, when I worked at Thinktank, Birmingham science museum. I had spent far too much of a particular morning trying to find clip art of a badger to use at work. The web seemed to be bursting with clip art of American animals, but empty of anything British.
By lunch-time I was telling myself that it would have been quicker to draw something myself. I was persuaded to put my ideas into practice by Will Buckingham, who also did a splendid job of helping me to the site together.
I decided to give the site an educational bias, as I’m aware of how much British teachers have to cover local wildlife. My aims for the site are to provide a wide range of British wildlife clip art, to offer teachers’ packs based around curriculum topics, and to display guest art, allowing a range of styles to be accessible to clip art hunters.
If you have any other suggestions about the site we will be very pleased to hear them, so don’t hesitate to fill in our contact form.
