Clip Art

Clipart.co.uk
If you like sticking little animations into presentations, then this might just be the site for you. A bit techie-looking, so computer-phobes might not like it, and beware the adverts!

DK Clip Art
If you don’t already have a heap of DK books then go and get some, they’re fantastic! In the meantime, look at this site which features the type of photographs and diagrams that make the books such a joy. Free for school and home use.

Microsoft Clip Art
Linking to this site leaves a slightly bitter taste in my mouth, as this is the type of clip art that made me want to draw my own! It is, however, pretty easy to use, and at least isn’t plagued by advertising, as if Microsoft would need to make more money...

Noetic Art
If WildBritArt isn’t cute and quirky enough, then pay a visit to this American site, with clip art drawn by designer Tony Martin. A fab collection of animals, objects and characters, free for home and school use.

US Fish and Wildlife Service, Line Art
An American site of line drawings of American wildlife. Some overlaps with European wildlife, especially in birds and fish, so could be useful.

Wildlife and Nature Sites

The Mammal Society
A comprehensive guide to British mammals, including detailed fact sheets, information on events, and all things mammaltastic. They are particularly concerned with conservation, so this is a good place to start if you want to do something practical.

UK Safari
- A site for anyone interested in the wildlife and countryside of Britain. Features photos, facts and a free newsletter. Go there now.

Wild About Britain
An online community bringing together a whole wealth of resources on British Wildlife.

Wild Over Waterways
Attractive and educational site all about British Waterways, split into two parts - one full of fun and games for kids, and the other having resources, including lesson plans, for teachers.

Young People's Trust for the Environment
This is a charity site which aims to raise young people’s awareness of nature and the environment. It also has extensive information in the form of fact sheets on all sorts of animals, plants and environmental issues.

Science Education

BBC Schools Science Clips
An excellent site, with fun games to help KS1 & 2 children get to grips with all parts of the science curriculum. It requires flash, but is well worth the download time!

Planet Science
great resource for teachers, parents and children. It also offers weekly newsletters full of science news and activities. The only problem is the site is so big it can take some patientience to find anything!

Science Explorer
Not strictly to do with wildlife, but such a good site that I had to include it! It shows you how to do heaps of simple science experiments. For the wildlife connection, think about animals as you destroy your kitchen!

Museums, Nature Centres and Science Centres

Life Science Centre
Newcastle’s science centre is broadly based on the theme of genetics. So, given that all living things have genes, I think we can include it here! There are also schools' workshops which cover a variety of relevant topics.

Natural History Museum
What a great museum! With galleries on ecology, dinosaurs, variation and the human body, what more can you want? What more can I say?

Oxford University Museum of Natural History
I love this museum. Having spent the last few years being refurbished it now combines good old-fashioned Victorian natural history with truly original and thoughtful displays. Plus you can watch waggle-dancing bees. Great!

Thinktank
Birmingham’s science museum houses, amongst other things, galleries which cover large parts of the life processes and living things curriculum. Their schools' workshop Wild Things looks particularly at British wildlife.

Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust
I've only visited the WWT site at Slimbridge, so I can’t comment on the rest. Slimbridge is great though. You can wander amongst the ducks, feed Hawaiian geese and play in their interactive science centre. Take waterproofs!

WildWalk at Bristol
As they say, a living rainforest in the heart of the city. A good venue for a school visit, it combines interactive exhibits with live animals and wildlife film footage.
